Infinite-Sum Modeling

Solutions

Agriculture

Agricultural applications refine production activities to study food prices and security, rural labor movement, and agricultural trade. Partial-equilibrium models are also used where finer sectoral detail is required.

Data consistency

Balancing a CGE database can compromise local or sectoral realism. We check, with agricultural specialists, whether recorded activities and input–output relations are credible, and adjust the database where needed.

Disaggregation

Global databases typically aggregate agriculture into a handful of sectors; national Chinese models even more so. SplitCOM (Mark Horridge) can split maize from grains or soy from oilseeds. National models may require pre-processing of input–output tables, or TABLO, R, and Python programs to split an existing database.

Model extensions

Questions of cropping structure, subsidies, agricultural trade, and stocks usually require additional or modified modules so that the equation system matches actual agricultural behaviour.
