Manitra A. Rakotoarisoa


Biography

Manitra A. Rakotoarisoa has more than twenty eight years of academic and research experiences in applied economics, specializing in International Trade and Marketing and Industrial Organization. He has extensive modeling and quantitative analysis skills and have taught and published books and articles on trade and investment policies; regional and preferential trading arrangements; economic growth, fiscal policies and foreign investment; and employment and labour productivity. His current research projects address asymmetric information and adjustment costs in changing trade regimes; market failure and incomplete market in credit and insurance markets; firms’ productivity and human capital under imperfect competition.  He holds a PhD (2001) and a MS (1998) in Applied Economics from Oklahoma State University, USA, and a MSc (1989) in Industrial Engineering from the Université d’ Antananarivo, Madagascar.


Manitra worked with the Economic and Social Development Department of United Nations FAO (2008-2017), and the Consultative Group of International Agricultural Research at the International Food Policy Research Institute in Washington D.C. USA and International Livestock Research Institute in Nairobi, Kenya (2003 and 2008).  He taught International Development at Seoul National University, South Korea (2002-2003).  He worked as an intern and then post-doctoral economist at the Economic Research Service of the US Department of Agriculture in Washington D.C. (1998- 2001).  He was a Researcher at the Center for Research Applied to Development (FOFIFA) (1991-1995) after holding the position of Technico-commercial Manager at the Subdiary of BAYER AG (1989-1991) in Madagascar.
